If you missed the last post, I discussed how managing your online presence is an essential step in managing your personal brand. I mentioned how you can use social media to showcase your personal brand…but I know what you’re thinking, a mention is just not enough time to fully go into how you can utilize social media for your own benefit, right? Hence, this blog post was created.

Social media offers a miriad of ways to present yourself to the world: in 140 characters with Twitter, in an vintage-filtered picture with Instagram or on a DIY board with Pinterest. The opportunities social media gives you to share you, your pictures, and your interests are endless, so take advantage of this and show off your carefully crafted brand.

The wonderful thing about social media is that it is all about you.

You have complete control over what you post, and therefore complete control over the image you’re presenting. If you want to be represented as an outdoors enthusiast, you can post things related to the environment and outdoor activities all over your social media. This way, when your name pops up on Google, you are represented by your latest hiking picture on Instagram, your live-tweet of your snowshoe adventure, and the link you pinned about environmental responsibility.

Your content defines your brand. Posting interesting and relevant content relating to your industry shapes how people view you online, so own your social media presence and own your brand.
